eeePC

Give Luv:
This is all about my new eeePC.
I’ve wanted it forever but I only just got it this week. I couldn’t find a really comprehensive video anywhere showing all of its features. I found loads of hardware specs and a lot of really fancy techy talk but I couldn’t even find a single website listing the preloaded software or how it worked on the Linux OS. This video is a bit long winded but I promise - if you want to see the eeePC from a real person’s P.O.V - this is it.
This particular eeePC is a model 701, pearl white, 4G SSD, 512 RAM, built in webcam and internal mic. The processor is a 900Mhz but its under clocked to 600Mhz for speed and ease of use. There is a slot for an SD or an MMC card. The slot works as an extender for storage or a simple card reader for loading files from your camera or MP3 player. The three USB 2.0 ports make it easy to plug in an external drive, a portable flash drive, a mouse and/or an MP3 player. There is an outlet for a monitor plug and its fully recharged (from dead) in just a few hours. It has a place to plug in a standard headset/earbud mic set as well. The Intell in its pretty little body also auto detects any “hotspots” in your range. Its truly an “on the go” tool for anybody from a busy mom to a harried student to a stressed out businessman. The touchpad is pretty small and super sensitive but overall this beast gets a full five stars from me, and then some.

This is a much better way to show it to you than trying to type it out in full. When I was considering the purchase - all I could find were techy videos and shit and there were absolutely no sites that just plain listed and showed what it had and could do… Its going to keep me company during the upcoming times when I’m at the doctors, bedridden, on the road or god forbid - hospitalized.

** [cam fix update] **
Please see *here* for the eeePC streaming cam fix update. Wayne has an incredible tutorial and a file all ready for you to download and use. Cudos to him and the guys at the Flashcam Project.
This video is 20 minutes long but its incredibly comprehensive and it will let you see the real eeePC rather than a crazy confusing mark-up of techy stat crap. If you’re interested in purchasing this machine - I’d suggest that you watch this and see what it can (and can’t) do for you. If you’re thinking about any sort of Mobile Internet Device - I’d like to add this suggestion to your thought bank.
**Note: In the video, the voice command didn’t work, that was entirely my bad. My house was really loud and the mic is in an odd place on the machine, its on the underside which I did find a bit annoying but nothing that would stop me from purchasing and/or using a product, I prefer external mics anyway.
I want to add that the battery life with standard use is about 2.5 to 3 hours unless you’re streaming or using a lot of resources like watching movies or playing online games. The little beast does seem to run smoother (and quieter) when plugged in but its no slouch when running on battery power either.
There are very few heating issues. I have sat in my bed using my 701 on my bare lap for well over an hour without any discomfort and the applications didn’t even start to get sluggish until about the 2:15 hours mark.
**Note: You should know, as with any lithium battery - if you leave it sitting for a long period without use - the battery will go dead. If you try to turn it on and it just won’t go - plug it in for a few hours before you freak out, it is NOT a PC issue, its simply the type of battery used for power…
I have found no issues with the eeePC as yet and I am incredibly happy with its overall performance. For a student, a traveller, a busy mom, a youth in need of a first PC - this is the perfect little critter for most all of your portable needs.
